Double Wrist Grabs

All techniques assume that the attacker has seized the practitioner by both wrists.

  1. Circle #1 block under attacker’s right hand (grasping the practitioner’s left wrist), while stepping back to Zone 7. Deliver right front punch to attacker’s face followed by right front kick.
  2. Circle #1 & #2 blocks to break hold while stepping back to Zone 7. Deliver simultaneous left and right front punches to attacker’s face, followed by a right knee to the abdomen. Step down forward, delivering double palm strikes to the attacker’s cheekbones.
  3. Circle #3 block downwards to strike attacker’s right hand, freeing left wrist. Swing left rolling thunder up to the bridge of the nose. Drop left sword hand to strike attacker’s left hand, freeing right wrist. Swing right rolling thunder up to the bridge of the nose. Step in with right foot to Zone 8, delivering right whipping elbow to the cheekbone, followed by right reverse elbow to the face and then right knee to the abdomen.
  4. #4 block while stepping back to Zone 8 to free left wrist. Left sword hand to neck, right screw punch exposing attacker’s ribs, right roundhouse kick to ribs.
  5. Circle hands up to the outside to bang the backs of the attacker’s wrists together. Step back to Zone 8 and press hands straight down to break the hold. Deliver double rolling thunder strikes to attacker’s cheekbones. Grab attacker’s head with both hands and pull down diagonally to meet right knee.
  6. Right hand comes across to left and grasps attacker’s right wrist in a tiger’s mouth. Left hand raises to a #6 block, allowing practitioner to step forward with right foot to Zone 1 under the attacker’s arm, then pivot to face Zone 8. Put the attacker in an arm bar, striking the upper arm with a left forearm smash. As attacker pulls back, place left hand on attacker’s face with thumb under chin, pushing back and down to fell attacker to his back.
  7. Spread hands apart and down, stepping back with the right foot to Zone 8. Deliver right instep kick, stepping back down to Zone 8. #2 block loops in front of right hand, breaking hold, and delivering quick jab to attacker’s face.
  8. Spread hands apart and down, stepping back with the right foot to Zone 8. Deliver right instep kick, stepping back down to Zone 8. Raise left hand, grasping attacker’s right wrist in a tiger’s mouth, stepping across in front of the attacker with the right foot to place him in an arm bar under the left arm. Sprawl to the ground, left foot in front, laying back on the attacker’s shoulder.

Five Animal Kung Fu Techniques

Tiger: The Tiger is the cornerstone of the Shaolin Chuan Fa (Five Animal Kung Fu) system. From the Tiger we learn strength and tenacity. The Tiger employs powerful upper body movements to overwhelm its opponents. Clawing, ripping, tearing and grappling are characteristic tactics of Tiger style fighting.

Crane: The Crane teaches grace, balance and coordination of the entire body. Crane-style fighting combines evasion with deadly counter attacks to avoid injury and quickly incapacitate an opponent. Crane techniques are extremely powerful, employing the entire body to generate force.

Snake: The Snake teaches rhythmic endurance, focus and penetrating internal power. The fighting techniques of the Snake employ both hard (external) and soft (internal) power. The Snake uses circular movements of the arms and legs with rigid, penetrating and focused strikes with the hands and feet.

Leopard: The Leopard develops power from its great speed, balance and muscle development. The Leopard techniques are characterized by loose, whipping movements that are delivered at great speed.

Dragon: The Dragon combines the fighting techniques of all of the other animals and adds the quality of spirit strike with purpose and focus. The Dragon teaches us to ride the wind, i.e. flow from one technique to another. The Dragon adds its total of mind, body and spirit. Above all the Dragon teaches commitment, purpose and focus.
