Nafachin 8

Front position. Bow, hands at sides. Return to front position.

Step out to horse stance with right foot, rolling fists outwards and down into #7 & #8 blocks and inhaling, then pushing out twin thrust punches at hip height while exhaling.

Move left foot to right, taking tree stance, with hands in ready position.

Turn to the west, half-mooning forward on the left foot and delivering #8 block, followed by a #1 block, then #6 block, pulling opposite hand back to elbow position as each block is delivered. Deliver right front ball kick while holding #6 block, landing in right foot forward half-moon stance. Deliver three front punches, alternating right-left-right, pulling free hand back to elbow position as each punch is thrown, aiming each punch directly in front of the practitioner’s face.

Turn to the east by reaching behind and to the left of the left foot with the right toe and pivoting to the right, moving hands to ready position. Half-moon forward on the right foot, delivering #7 block, followed by a #2 block, then #5 block, pulling opposite hand back to elbow position as each block is delivered. Deliver left front ball kick while holding <a href="../blocking-systems/#8pt5"#5 block, landing in left foot forward half-moon stance. Deliver three front punches, alternating left-right-left, pulling free hand back to elbow position as each punch is thrown, aiming each punch directly in front of the practitioner’s face.

Turn to the north by pulling left foot to right and moving hands to ready position. Half-moon forward on the left foot, delivering #8 block, followed by a #1 block, then a #6 block, pulling opposite hand back to elbow position as each block is delivered. Deliver right front ball kick while holding #6 block, landing in right foot forward half-moon stance. Deliver three front punches, alternating right-left-right, pulling free hand back to elbow position as each punch is thrown, aiming each punch directly in front of the practitioner’s face.

Turn to the south by reaching behind and to the left of the left foot with the right toe and pivoting to the right, moving hands to ready position. Half-moon forward on the right foot, delivering #7 block, followed by a #2 block, then #5 block, pulling opposite hand back to elbow position as each block is delivered. Deliver left front ball kick while holding #5 block, landing in left foot forward half-moon stance. Deliver three front punches, alternating left-right-left, pulling free hand back to elbow position as each punch is thrown, aiming each punch directly in front of the practitioner’s face.

Turn to the north by reaching behind and to the right of the right foot with the toe of the left foot, stepping out to a horse stance. Roll fists outwards and inhale, then push out to #7 and #8 blocks while exhaling. Assume tree stance by moving left foot to right, hands meeting in front position as feet touch. Bow, hands at sides, then assume set position.

Stance Form

Tree stance, hands in front position.

Move right foot out to a horse stance while simultaneously raising hands in a high cross-block, ending with hands in elbow position.

Step forward with the left foot into an orthodox fighting stance, hands on guard.

Step back with the left foot into a southpaw fighting stance, hands on guard.

Step back with the right foot into a Kibidachi stance, hands on guard.

Pull up the left foot into a cat stance.

Drop into a twist stance.

Step back with the left foot and pull the right knee up into a crane stance, right palm blocking downward and left hand on guard in a #6 block position.

Pivot on the left foot and step back with the right foot into a dragon stance, hands on guard.

Drop into harimau position on the left hip.

Perform a hip flip to a harimau position on the right hip.

Tiger tail walk to a defensive kneeling position with the left knee on the floor.

Tree stance, hands in front position.

Bow.

Assume set position.

Take high kneeling position, kneeling on first the right knee, then the left.

Assume low kneeling position, insteps on the floor.

Monkey Dance

Front position. Bow. Roll fists out on the inhale, press out to #7 & #8 blocks on the exhale.

Place hands in cup over saucer position on the right. Deliver #2 block and right front punch to the west, followed by high cross block, returning hands to elbow position.

Half-moon back on the left foot with #1 block.

Half-moon back on the right foot with #8 block.

Half-moon back on the left foot with #3 block.

Half-moon forward on the left foot to face east in horse stance; deliver a high cross block.

Pivot forward on left foot to face west in horse stance; deliver a high cross block.

Look north, hands in cup over saucer on the left hip. Half-moon forward on the left foot, delivering right backfist followed by left front punch. Rotate left hand as if grasping the back of the attacker’s head. Half-moon forward right, delivering whipping elbow into left palm, then right driving elbow with left hand on guard. Leaving left hand on guard, deliver right rolling thunder into right reverse hammer strike.

Pivot to face south, hands on guard. Half-moon forward into side horse stance and deliver a #3 block, a #2 block, and then a right reverse hammer strike into rolling thunder, with left hand on guard.

Half-moon forward on the right foot to neutral stance. Roll fists out on the inhale, press out to #7 & #8 blocks on the exhale. Front position, bow, set position.

Hachi Ten Do

Opening salutation.

  1. Basic eight point blocks, facing north
  2. Eight point blocks with strikes
    1. Pivot on the ball of the right foot, half-mooning forward to face the east with the left foot into a horse stance. Blocks #1 and #2 with counters.
    2. Pivot on the ball of the left foot, half-mooning back to face the south with the right foot into a horse stance. Blocks #3 and #4 with counters.
    3. Pivot on the ball of the right foot, half-mooning forward to face the west with the left foot into a horse stance. Blocks #5 and #6 with counters.
    4. Pivot on the ball of the left foot, half-mooning back to face the north with the right foot into a horse stance. Blocks #7 and #8 with counters.
  3. Eight point blocks with simultaneous counters
    1. Pivot on the ball of the left foot, adjusting right foot to a half-moon stance facing east. #1 block with simultaneous counter.
    2. Half-moon forward with the left foot. #2 block with simultaneous counter.
    3. Pivot on the balls of each foot to face south in a right-foot forward half-moon stance. #3 block with simultaneous counter.
    4. Half-moon forward with the left foot. #4 block with simultaneous counter.
    5. Pivot on the balls of each foot to face west in a right-foot forward half-moon stance. #5 block with simultaneous counter.
    6. Half-moon forward with the left foot. #6 block with simultaneous counter.
    7. Pivot on the balls of each foot to face north in a right-foot forward half-moon stance. #7 block with simultaneous counter.
    8. Half-moon forward with the left foot. #8 block with simultaneous counter.
  4. Half-moon forward with right foot into a horse stance. Sixteen point blocking system, facing north.

Front position. Bow, hands at sides. Return to front position.

Step out with the right foot to a horse stance. Inhale, pushing fists outward, palms up and fists together, then exhale while pushing out to #7 & #8 blocks.

Left foot moves to right in tree stance while left and right arms circle above head to bring wrists to cross in front of practitioner’s midsection, hands in crane position, left over right. Position hands in cup over saucer on the right hip. Step left foot to Zone 3 in forward stance, simultaneously executing #2 block and right front punch.

Pivot to face Zone 8 again, bringing right foot to left in tree stance while left and right arms circle above head to bring wrists to cross in front of practitioner’s midsection, hands in crane position, right over left. Position hands in cup over saucer on the left hip. Step right foot to Zone 4 in forward stance, simultaneously executing #1 block and left front punch.

Pivot to face Zone 2, hiding hands at the small of the back in crane position, moving left foot to right in tree stance. Lift left knee to crane stance. Jump onto left foot, instep kick right. Jump onto right foot, instep kick left. Jump back onto left foot, turning 90◦ to present right side to Zone 2 and landing in crane stance with right knee raised. Left hand is up in overhead guard, palm facing up/forward, right hand blocks downward with palm facing the floor.

Staying in crane stance, circle hands counter-clockwise, right hand coming over the top to meet left circling under at left hip, palm to palm. Right side kick to opponent’s hip. Step down into right forward half-moon stance. Right hand rises to #5 block, while simultaneously executing a left spear poke to opponent’s throat. Step in left, deliver three front punches to opponent’s low mid-section (bladder), left-right-left.

Step forward right, pivoting on right foot to face Zone 7, then jump back onto left foot, toes facing Zone 7, presenting right side of body to Zone 5, with left hand up in overhead guard, palm facing up/forward, right hand blocking downward with palm facing the floor.

Staying in crane stance, circle hands counter-clockwise, right hand coming over the top to meet left circling under at left hip, palm to palm. Right side kick to opponent’s hip. Step down into right forward half-moon stance. Right hand rises to #5 block, while simultaneously executing a left spear poke to opponent’s throat. Step in left, deliver three front punches to opponent’s low mid-section (bladder), left-right-left.

Take an adjustment step back to Zone 8 onto right foot, turning to face Zone 7, left foot in cat stance. Hands on guard, left hand in front; palm sword block beginning with right hand, ending with right hand at elbow position and left hand in palm guard. Instep kick left, stepping down left and delivering a downward screw punch into a twist stance.

Jump back onto left foot, right knee raised to crane stance. Staying in crane stance, circle hands counter-clockwise, right hand coming over the top to meet left circling under at left hip, palm to palm. Right side kick to opponent’s hip. Step down into right forward half-moon stance. Right hand rises to #5 block, while simultaneously executing a left spear poke to opponent’s throat. Step in left, deliver three front punches to opponent’s low mid-section (bladder), left-right-left.

Bring right foot to left in tree stance facing Zone 7, looking to Zone 5, while bringing hands to left hip in cup-over-saucer position. Execute #1 block to Zone 5 while delivering right front ball kick. As kick connects, right hand draws back to elbow position. Step forward right & deliver U-punch in leaning stance.

Bring left foot to right in tree stance facing Zone 7, looking to Zone 6, while bringing hands to right hip in cup-over-saucer position. Execute #2 block to Zone 6 while delivering left front ball kick. As kick connects, right hand draws back to elbow position. Step forward left and deliver U-punch in leaning stance.

Bring right foot to left in tree stance facing Zone 6, looking to Zone 7, while bringing hands to left hip in cup-over-saucer position. Execute #1 block to Zone 7 while delivering front ball kick. As kick connects, right hand draws back to elbow position. Step forward right and deliver U-punch in leaning stance. Deliver two more U-punches while stepping forward left and right in leaning stance. Bring hands back to left shoulder and right hip and push forward with open palms, using dynamic tension.

Bring left foot to right into tree stance, pivoting on right foot counter-clockwise to face Zone 8, hands in cup-over-saucer position at right hip. Execute #2 block to Zone 8 while delivering front ball kick. As kick connects, left hand draws back to elbow position. Step forward right and deliver U-punch in leaning stance. Deliver two more U-punches while stepping forward left and right in leaning stance. Bring hands back to right shoulder and left hip and push forward with open palms, using dynamic tension.

Step out right to horse stance, exhaling as you push hands out to #7 and #8 blocks. Front position. Branches of the Falling Pine salute. Bow, hands at sides. Set position.
